About the Role
Are you passionate about breakthrough technologies and excited by the space industry? Join our Ground Systems Development team as a Senior Mission Software Engineer supporting a Space Development Agency (SDA) program. In this role, you’ll work on mission-critical software components—such as Mission Planning, Network Management, and Flight Dynamics—while collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities: planning, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of Ground Systems Mission Software.
- Drive software release planning and delivery aligned with stakeholder schedules and budgets, including integration and support during major program milestones.
- Participate in and lead architecture, requirements, design, and code reviews.
- Develop within an Agile/Scrum framework (experience with Atlassian tools preferred).
- Adhere to established processes for change control, prioritization, risk management, COTS management, build, and deployment.
- Prepare clear, concise documentation and deliver briefings to stakeholders.
- Provide timely responses to stakeholder inquiries.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
- Experience:
- 8+ years in software engineering.
- 2+ years in debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing in production systems.
- 1+ year in mission planning, network management, or flight dynamics development.
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including executive-level reporting.
- Ability to thrive in dynamic environments with evolving requirements.
- Hands-on experience with real-time system integration, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring.
- Solid understanding of mission planning, data routing/management, and/or flight dynamics.
- Familiarity with microservices design patterns and cloud migration best practices.
Preferred Skills
- 5+ years:
- C/C++, Python
- Linux environments and bash scripting
- Atlassian tools (Jira, Git, Bitbucket, Crucible, Confluence) or GitLab
- 2+ years:
- Perl, Matlab, Java
- Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka
- XML, JSON, SQL
- JFrog Artifactory and pipeline management
- NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
- RESTful APIs, HTTP, ELK stack, WebSockets
- Microservices architectures
