Job Description

Job Summary
Lead role in technical evolution of primary Children’s databases. Directs the activity of multiple Database administrators, System Administrators and other technical resources supporting large scale enterprise relational databases. Architects highly reliable, high performance database processing environments. Diagnose and write expert level system and application code enabling required functionality for strategic advantage and database system efficiencies. Apply substantial depth of skill and experience in reviewing and recommending data modeling and database design. Effectively provide technical mentorship in all areas of database support for assigned technical resources. Aid development teams in comprehension and effectiveness of high-performance coding techniques. Work directly with business and IT leaders in a senior level consultative role, ensuring best practices for database security, availability, recoverability, and performance. Lead specialized work efforts and projects at an enterprise level. Act as IT liaison in database architecture areas with major software vendors.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as the lead technical expert for enterprise wide, mission-critical, high risk and high impact databases. Develop architecture, coordinate/design/deployment efforts, lead and mentor technical resources. Set technical strategies, architectures, and futures with awareness of business customer requirements and corporate goals. Execute architectures and strategies as authored in a seamless manner.
  • Direct troubleshooting and accurate root cause analysis for resolving database problems with multiple system dependencies (network, servers, peripherals, storage, etc.)
  • Database Monitoring and Diagnostics: Design methods and architectures or enterprise monitoring; design and implement best practices in performance tuning and optimization; design and implement monitoring, logging, and reporting best practices; architect technical solutions designed for synergy with operational practices and processes.
  • Oversee Database Administration, Maintenance, and Support: Architect process solutions to perform software upgrades and services package deployments that are effective and avoid disruptions; work with project and production support teams to develop, implement and administer complex procedures; prioritize and organize numerous tasks within time and resource constraints; provide after-hours and weekend support when needed.
  • Develop and implement standards, methods, tools, procedures, and processes to be used in the enterprise. Design, develop and deploy disaster recovery and archiving processes and procedures for enterprise database systems. Develop and implement capacity planning processes ensuring adequate resources for enterprise database systems. Develop database security architectures and designs for database software.
  • Respond to and lead incident response events related to database and system recovery in the event of an unexpected outage or failure. Direct others in rapid restoration of service, contact and consult with related vendors, and team members. Document incidents as required
  • Serve as a consultative liaison to senior IT and business personnel. Create detailed Change Management documentation and implement well-thought-out changes to database systems. Mentor DBA’s in problem/change management disciplines/processes, performance management reporting and overarching technical strategies.

Education and Experience
  • BS/BA degree in IT related field, or technical school certificate/diploma; or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 15 years of Information Technology experience in support of medium to large relational database applications, including at least 3 years in managing or supervising a technical team or large scale project management.
  • Specific technology support roles with responsibility for producing structured, formal requirement specifications and documentation.
  • 10 years of direct, mainstream relational database experience.
  • Direct experience with any of the following: Cache, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.

Preferred
  • Experience with the following: Windows or Unix clustering/high availability.
  • Knowledge of third party software: ETL’s, monitoring and backup
  • Knowledge of and experience with Enterprise software packages such as Lawson, SharePoint, Exchange, etc.

  • KSA’s
  • Knowledge of server operating systems: Windows or Unix
  • Team player with excellent inter-personal skills and a collaborative leadership style
  • Demonstrates expert level analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other technical personnel in enterprise database administration principles and concepts
  • Demonstrated skills in enterprise level planning and implementation of relational database technologies and project leadership

Compensation: $170k
