Job Description
We are seeking a Hardware Development Engineer (willing to consider all Sr. levels) for a period of up to 6 months, with the possibility of extension or conversion, located in Marlborough, MA. In this role you will be collaborating with other members of the engineering team and product management develop space-qualified hardware PCBs and FPGA designs for our flight camera, navigational sensor products, and other expanded product lines. The development includes circuit design, analysis, test, qualification, design documents, and supporting the transition of products from R&D to manufacturing.

- Learn applicable product technology, architecture, and design requirements for space-based sensor systems.
- Collaborate with the larger product team to effectively produce optimal hardware designs for the space environment.
- Analyze and document design specifications, design verification plans and reports, parts stress analysis, worst-case analysis including radiation effects, and failure modes and effects analysis.
- Work with the software team to bring up and debug PCB, FPGA, and system-level designs. Maintain hardware throughout the development cycle.
- Design and build any special test equipment needed including interface adapters, cables, and associated commercial test support equipment.
- Conduct design verification stress testing to validate analysis and design margins. Evaluate any noncompliance’s and develop solutions to bring the product into compliance.
- Develop novel system design approaches to mitigate radiation hazards to improved sensor availability or extend mission life.
- Support product release cycles, including manufacturing and test.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with five or more years of relevant design experience. MSEE is a plus.
- Experience with isolated DC/DC conversion for MIL-STD-704 28V bus or other applications, and non-isolated low-voltage DC/DC conversion.
- Experience with power supply voltage and current monitoring and protection.
- Understanding of analog circuits, including basic amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC, power sequencing, etc.
- Experience with standard digital hardware interfaces such as UART, OSPI/QSPI/SPI, I2C, Ethernet, USB, MIPI, and DDR2/3/4 memories.
- Experience with SoC-based systems and tools (e.g., Xilinx Zynq / Vivado).
- Designing systems to meet EMC regulatory requirements such as MIL-STD-461 RE, CE, RS, CS, and ESD protection.
- Hands-on experience with building test circuits, using power supplies, oscilloscopes, and other lab test equipment in a manual or automated test environment.
- Experience with the entire hardware development cycle including specification, design, implementation, verification, and through manufacturing release.
- An ability to conduct analysis such as worst case, part stress, basic thermal analysis, and reliability analysis.
- Design for a space environment, including an understanding of radiation effects such as TID, SEE, TNID is strongly preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that enable effective collaboration, status reporting, and documenting analysis and results.
- Knowledge of professional desktop engineering tools on Windows and Linux platforms such as Altium (or other schematic & PCB tool), GIT, RTL Spice, Synthesis and Simulation, SI Analysis.
- Driven to advance your career by learning, acting on feedback, and putting in the effort to get the job done.
- Though typically not part of the role, a willingness to travel if required. Expected to be < 5%.
- Ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance
